An interview with Sam
-
I started my career in Child & Youth Work, enjoying the opportunity in casual environments to connect and help young people with the challenges they were facing. As I progressed in my career, I discovered what I enjoyed most was the informal counselling opportunities which naturally occurred throughout the day and I wanted to continue to support others through those meaningful interactions. Although I now focus my work with adults, my early education and experience have been valuable in shaping my understanding of Human Development and its significance in our growth and development.

I believe that having a daily ritual or practice that allows you to reconnect with yourself or find a sense of calm, can be a beneficial way to appreciate the good days and cope with the more stressful ones. Personally, I have found spending time outdoors and being active have been great ways for me to feel grounded and connected to a sense of calm. Going for walks with my fiancee and dog provides opportunities to reconnect with nature and getting to see Murphy having a blast with simple things like being on a trail reminds me to stay in touch with what matters to me.

In my years working in mental health, I learned that approaching with authenticity fosters a strong connection and establishes a solid foundation for meaningful work. I do my best to show up in a professional and genuine way to each individual I work with, helping to create a grounded and open environment for our work together.

I’ve spent time living in Alberta in a National Park, working as a Bellman & server. During my off time, I enjoyed hiking mountains and going on adventures! In my free time I enjoy building and fixing things from other peoples discarded items as well as going on hikes and walks with my fiancée and dog (Murphy).
